How many times, have I been driving somewhere, and not exactly knowing where I should be, and have NOT stopped and asked somebody ! Is a a Macho thing? Am I the “only one”. Does’nt matter, anymore. This whole thing with the phone and talking into it has come full circle. Voice recognition has come into its 0wn. I always knew it would happen, just not when. Back in the 80’s when network communications speed was multiplying by quantum leaps (300, 1200, 3600, 56k, 1 meg, T1, T3) I was always told it was the Algorithm that did it. The sampling rate. I can remember back then the old Fortier doctrine, that reasonsonable sampling was adequate at 2xFrequency. That is to say that if the Human voice speaks from 0 to 20,000 hertz and that the only real hertz that mattered to human speech was 500 to 4000 hertz (which is what Ma Bell uses in their phone system) then 2 x times 4000= 8000. One only needs to sample the human voice 8000 times a second to make a good reproduction. 8000 times a second is very very very very slow for processors that can sample billions of times a second.
